I almost got whiplash when I read this headline: "Bush Takes Responsibility for Blunders":
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Tuesday that "I take responsibility" for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government's ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks.
"Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government," Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.
"To the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," Bush said.
There is no reason why anyone should be excited about a simple statement like this, but we haven't seen anyone in the White House take responsibility for anything in the past five years. This is a good start. Hopefully he is being sincere and not just trying to put out the flames on his presidency. At this point though, I'm too cynical to believe the former.
