Great quote from Karl Rove which explains exactly why we continue to battle an insurgency in Iraq and why our efforts there have been highly counter-productive because of the way in which we are going about them. Rove, in all seriousness says the following as if its an indictment against liberals:
Conservatives saw what happened to us on 9/11 and said we will defeat our enemies. Liberals saw what happened to us and said we must understand our enemies.
Yes Karl, that is entirely true. Is that supposed to be an insult to say that liberals want to understand the enemy? It seems the only way you really can defeat an enemy is to know them through and through and understand what motivates them and what inspires them to be your enemy in the first place. Only then can you actually defeat them. We've tried your way in Iraq for the past two years and where has it gotten us? The CIA now says that Iraq is becoming a training camp for terrorists akin to Afghanistan in the 1980s. We didn't learn then and it appears we are still not trying to understand our enemy. Here's what Sun-Tzu, writing 2500 years ago, had to say about such foolishness:
To know your enemy and know yourself is to defeat your enemy 10,000 times; not to know the enemy or yourself is to be defeated 10,000 times.
That one never goes out of style.
Rove was asserting that liberals (more generally, Democrats) lacked the balls and tenacity required to hunt down and destroy our enemies after 9/11. That kind of Karl Rove bullshit is partly why eigthy-something percent of NYC voted AGAINST Bush last year.
