The last week I've been a bit behind on Nothing Aside. I have been in New York for the first week of my Spring Break (my last Spring Break). It was a great time. Money seems to flow away from me in the city, but for two days it is worth it.
I must say, however, that I am no fan of New Jersey. On our drive from Syracuse to the city (supposedly a 4-5 hour drive), we were stuck in traffic in New Jersey for six or seven hours. Our 4 hour trip turned into 11 hours. But once we got out of the Holland Tunnel, everything changed and New York welcomed us. We immediately crossed the Brooklyn Bridge and stopped at one of the most well known pizza places in the city (the name escapes me right now). A great way to start off a visit to NYC.
We were staying out in Brooklyn, so we became familiar with the New York subway system. We were staying near the end of the Q line, whatever that means.
Anyway, on our first day we checked out the Brooklyn Bridge, City Hall, the World Trade Center site, Wall Street, an awesome Korean restaurant in Midtown, Central Park and The Met. On day two we spent the day in the West Village, had lunch at a typical New York diner, tried to go to the Guggenheim (but it was closed), and checked out the Museum of Modern Art at its new location (now on 53rd, between 5th and 6th). We wondered through Time Square at dusk on our way to the subway and had dinner at a tiny Italian restaurant in the West Village. After dinner we headed over to the most famous comedy club in the city, the Comedy Cellar, which is apparently where much of Seinfeld's comeback film, Comedian, was filmed. Talk about a great cap to two days in the city.
Here are a few pictures from the trip.
